The third annual Mini Course Day at Decorah Middle School is being called a success.
For one day each year, middle school staff and volunteers from the community provide students with instruction in areas not available in the traditional curriculum. All courses are either taught or supervised by a Decorah Middle School teacher.
Students select the mini courses of most interest to them with the oldest students in the building choosing first. There is no cost to the students for the mini courses as money from their fall magazine sales pays any fees and costs for supplies and transportation.
This year's offerings were Be a Techie, Not a Trekkie!, Biking, Bowling, Cards, The Dangerous Book for Boys, Digital Scrapbooking, Disc Golf, Field House Fun, Fishing, Fly Fishing, Gamestar Mechanic, Hiking, Horseback Riding, Geocaching, Gourmet Cooking, Gumshoe 101, Healthy Living, Juggling for Dummies, Knitting 101, Metamorphic Ascension, Museums, Norse Myths and Art, Norwegian Baking, Paddling Power, Recycle-UpCycle, Readers Theater, Roller Skating, Time Travel-Back to the Colonies, Track and Field, and Ukrainian Pysanky.
