"D1," the one-year-old Decorah bald eaglet, has suddenly left the Decorah area and headed for Canada.
The bald eaglet was fitted with a GPS transmitter last year so researchers could track its movements. D1 had been hanging out in Northeast Iowa for all but four days since January 1st.
But Raptor Resource Project Director Bob Anderson says the bald eagle headed north all of a sudden on May 4th. Nine days later she was neasr Marmion Lake in Canada.
"Her peregrinations have are proving to be most exciting," says Anderson. "We are learning so much about the movements of an Iowa fledged eagle."
