School District to review Middle School "Good Conduct" policies

Posted: Mon, May 14, 2012 10:07 PM

On Monday night the Decorah Community School Board heard from concerned citizens regarding their desire for the Middle School conduct policies to be reviewed. The concern centered on the difference between the Decorah High School and the Middle School codes which apparently are different and may allow the high school to act more swiftly and with more appropriate consequences when students are found to be engaging in violent or bullying behavior. There was perceived to be a "loophole" in middle school policies that might delay or inhibit administrative responses, such as waiting until civil authorities are involved.

However, prior to the presentation to the Board, discussions had already begun with the concerned parties and officials said the policies were already under review.
