School Board approves Amended Budget for 2011-12; approves work contracts

There was no public comment related to the proposal to amend the Decorah Schools 2011-12 budget. The budget was then increased by $475,000 for new computers, salaries and benefits (mostly related to a number of long term substitutes). Also increased was the budget related to the high school construction, in excess of $1,000,000. That was largely related to the construction being ahead of schedule. The change will not result in any tax increases for the current fiscal year, and monies will come from increased receipts and balances not budgeted or considered in the current budget. Superintendent Haluska said this is a relatively common school board action in most school districts, especially ones with ongoing construction projects.

In other action the Board approved a contract of $27,882 with M&K Construction for the John Cline Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter Improvement Bid. They also approved an $81,401 bid from Service Roofing of Waterloo for work on the West Side roof.
