There is now a connection between the Phelps Park Trail and Trout Run Trail.
Volunteers from Decorah Human-Powered Trails recently created a path from the western end of Phelps Park Trail to the switchback near The Cut for Trout Run Trail. The connection crosses land owned by David and Kathy Bakken of Decorah, but the Bakkens have granted access. The Trails of Winneshiek organization paid for the costs of the project.
The Phelps Park Trail had been closed while work was being done to a bridge on the trail. The new trail allows walkers and hikers to get on the Phelp Park Trail at Phelps Park and continue all the way to the Trout Run Trail. Bikes are not allowed on the Phelps Park Trail, however.
