15 property owners in the Serenity Drive area have presented a petition to the Decorah City Council calling for the rezoning of the property proposed for a residential apartment facility.
Attorney Karl Knudson, who represents the group, says the city would be on "firm ground" to change the zoning classification of the property to R2, which would be more restrictive of the type of development that could go on the property.
City Attorney Rick Zahasky agreed with Knudson that the city has the authority to make such a change, but pointed out the authority "is not necessarily a mandate."
The petition has been referred to the city's Planning & Zoning Commission for its recommendation.
