Rankings of high schools in Iowa and throughout the country put Decorah High School as the 4th-best high school in Iowa and 790th in the country.
US News & World Report issued the rankings Tuesday. They place Decorah HS just behind Cedar Rapids Washington, Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Ames High School, but ahead of Linn-Mar, Cedar Falls and 382 other high schools in Iowa.
The rankings were determined in part by math and reading proficiency scores. 92 percent of Decorah High School students are proficient in math and 93 percent are proficient in reading.
The 2012 rankings by US News & World Report include data on nearly 22,000 public high schools from 49 states and the District of Columbia. (Nebraska did not report enough data to be included in the rankings.) U.S. News partnered with the Washington, D.C.-based American Institutes for Research (AIR), which implemented U.S. News's rankings.
