It will cost more money than expected to reconstruction Short Street in Decorah.
The Decorah City Council has awarded a contract worth $2,743,000 to Skyline Construction to do the work. City Engineer Lindsay Erdman had estimated the project would cost $2,485,000.
Erdman says paving costs and sewer pipe costs drove up the price tag of the project. He calls Short Street "a complex project" and says the end of November completion date might mean either six day workweeks or overnight work for the construction crews.
Erdman says work on Short Street should start in the beginning of June, with the first work being done at the Short Street/Highway 9 intersection.
Meanwhile, a meeting with Short Street property owners to inform them about the project will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Decorah City Hall.
