May is Tourism Month

For much of the year, the Winneshiek County Convention and Visitor Bureau concentrates on attracting out-of-town residents to visit this area.

But in May, the WCCVB shifts its attention to local residents

"Sometimes we forget how much there is to do in our own backyard," says WCCVB Director Brenda Balk.  "Tourism in our county is big business; it greatly impacts the local economy."
 
According to the most recent study by the U.S. Travel Association, tourism generated over $25 million in spending during 2010. 

As an incentive for local residents to vacation within Winneshiek County, WCCVB has launched a contest on the Visit Decorah Facebook page (www.facebook.com/visitdecorah). Throughout the month of May, Facebook users who "like" the page and then post a comment on what they are planning to do on their local vacation will automatically be entered into a drawing for gift certificates that will be drawn throughout the month.
