This is Senior Corps Week, celebrating the commitment and contribution made by volunteers over the age of 55.
Locally, RSVP is honoring 250 RSVP volunteers who are making a difference at 46 different non-profit agencies in Northeast Iowa. They serve in a variety of ways, including at food pantries in Decorah, Postville and Waukon; at the Decorah Genealogy Center in Decorah; at NorthLand Agency on Aging's meals on wheels program; and at area nursing homes.
Local volunteers are among the 450,000 Americans age 55 plus across the nation who serve in their communities through the Senior Corps program.
Northeast Iowa RSVP is celebrating their 10th anniversary of being sponsored by the Decorah Public Library. In those ten years 438 volunteers have devoted over 143,000 hours of service towards making Northeast Iowa a better place to live.
If you are age 55 plus and would like to volunteer, give Kathy Barloon or Lyle Otte a call at 382-3717 or (877) 806-0623.
