Members of the WInneshiek County Historical Society have voted to retain the current slate of officers.
The group held its annual meeting Saturday, attracting 56 members. Those members re-elected Ferneva Brimacomb as president; Roger Bergan as vice president, Glen Barth as Treasurer and LaVonne Sharp as Secretary. They also added two township directors--Carrie Lee from Decorah Township and Paul Cutting from Hesper Township.
A group of four Historical Society members had nominated an opposing slate of candidates, but they were not elected. One of the four, Susan Jacobsen, said afterward, "This year we wanted WCHS members to have a choice when they voted. Our only option was to submit our own slate of candidates." Jacobsen said the vote results reflected that the majority of WCHS members are satisfied with the present leadership. Concluded Jacobsen, "I will have to accept that. What I will not accept and will continue to protest against is a ballot with only one hand-picked candidate for each position."
