NICC Vice President for Academic Affairs Curt Oldfield has accepted the presidency of Spoon River Community College in Canton, Illinois.
Oldfield joined NICC as Vice President in December of 2005. During his tenure at the college, Oldfield has been responsible for oversight of six academic departments in addition to the departments of student services, distance learning, institutional research, high school relations, tech-prep, and curriculum.
Said NICC President Dr. Liang Chee Wee, "(Curt) has worked to build partnerships with our high schools, with business and industry, and he has been instrumental in starting several new academic programs in his six-and-a-half years with us."
Oldfield is returning to the school where he previously held two positions. From 1999 to 2002, he was an agriculture instructor and from 2002 to 2005 he held the position of dean of instruction for the College. Oldfield also earned an Associate of Science degree in agriculture from Spoon River Community College. He earned a B.S. in agriculture education from Illinois State University, and an M.S. in agriculture education from the University of Illinois. Oldfield is currently working toward a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies at Iowa State University.
"My time at NICC has been very rewarding," said Oldfield in announcing his resignation, "and I am leaving many friends. However, it isn't often that one has the opportunity to accept a leadership position at a place that has the importance to me that Spoon River does and I look forward to the opportunities and challenges that this job will offer me."
Oldfield is expected to leave NICC in June. NICC will make an interim appointment until a successor for Oldfield can be found following a nationwide search.
