"People's Time Exchange" will allow swapping of services

Posted: Tue, Apr 10, 2012 3:52 PM

A new regional service encourages the sharing of time and talent, helping people to both save money and strengthen community.  The People's Time Exchange will give people the chance to trade their labor for another person's labor.

A series of local orientations explaining the new program will be held over the next three weeks, including a 2:00 p.m. meeting Saturday, April 21st, at the Northeast Iowa Peace and Justice Center.  Other orientations will be held in Spring Grove, Cresco, Prairie du Chien, Lansing and Postville.

Each People's Time Exchange member sets up their own exchanges on the PTE website, choosing from among the many skills people have listed that they have to share. Then, after each transaction occurs (once the actual in-person exchange has taken place), an online account adds a virtual 'hour' to the 'provider of service' and subtracts a virtual 'hour' from the 'recipient of service.
