Bringing local food producers together with local consumers is the goal of a survey being taken of producers and consumers in Winneshiek, Allamakee, Howard, Clayton, Chickasaw and Fayette counties. The survey, which is posted at
https://www.luther.edu/sustainability/food/surveys,
is a joint project of Luther College, the Northeast Iowa Food and Farm Coalition, Resource Conservation and Development and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. A paper version of the survey will be sent out in the mail sometime this spring.
A grant from the Rural Communities Development Initiative of Iowa is paying for the project, which has the goals of building additional capacity in the area's local food producer network, establishing email distribution networks, developing a regional local food system expansion plan and creating a fund-raising plan to support expansion.
