Luther students holding a wide range of activities in April to promote climate justice

Starting Monday, Luther College students plan to host a series of Climate Justice Campaign events on campus through April 22nd in conjunction with the international observance of Earth Day.  The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about climate change as a social justice issue and advocate for a sustainable and just future.

The events are open to the public.  Community members are being invited to come to campus to observe or take part in the activities:

•      April 1-5, Week One: Sustainable Living: Table outside cafeteria to collect pledges of students to commit to sustainable lifestyle choices
•      April 4, 7 p.m. - "Live Simply So Others May Simply Live," a film and dialogue on climate change, social justice, and sustainable living with interviewees in film, hosted by Kristi Holmberg
•      April 10-14, Week Two: Political Mobilization: Collaboration with Luther College political organizations to register students to vote in the 2012 U.S. Presidential Election; collection of petitions concerning Luther's next president and a continued commitment to climate leadership
•      April 15-22, Week Three: Peace Week: "The Future We Want," with Global Concerns Groups and tabling throughout the week
•      April 15: Peace Corps Event: inviting alumni to share how climate change affects their host countries
•      April 16: LC Feminists: display Climate Change, Water, Women posters by drinking fountains
•      April 17: Habitat for Humanity Can Mountain Day
•      April 18: Social Work Association event
•      April 19: Film, "Pray the Devil Back to Hell," hosted by Interfaith Student Association
•      April 20: PRIDE: National Day of Silence
•      April 21: ONE Campaign: Hunger Banquet with sustainable and local foods
•      April 22: Earth Day Celebration
•      April 22, 1 p.m.: Human Mosaic demonstration on Library Lawn or Sports Field
•      April 22,  7 p.m.: Jamnesty Advocacy Concert, hosted by Amnesty
