Decorahnews.com special report continues: A reader comment about WMC

Dear Mr. Answer Person:  I know that Winneshiek Medical Center is top heavy (way too many chiefs for its size)  and also has many other staff that could be eliminated to make it financially viable.  Having big city wages in small town America simply does not balance a budget.  Reminds me of the US Postal Service and the high wages paid rural Postmasters—one of several reasons they are suffering also.

A medical professional here in Decorah told me that non WMC doctors have offered to serve as ER Docs at WMC but  "Rent a Doc"  staff have been used instead – much more costly due to mileage, lodging, etc.  An offering of peace was given but not taken.

I cannot feel sorry for financial challenges at WMC when they overemploy and they underutilize local professionals.

I have enjoyed the Veterans Memorial Hospital radio ads from Waukon – patients who appreciated the care given them at VMH.    I have never heard such ads from WMC - Why?   I have asked myself this many times.  Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union is a great facility also – you DOOO have a choice!!   I know staff from both Veterans Memorial and Palmer Lutheran and I would not hesitate to give either my business.

Lastly, I have learned that less than half of the WMC's Board of Directors ask questions and dig into issues.  This is typical of a Board I realize, but dead wood is drift wood – not good for construction purposes.  Does one of the Board members at WMC have a conflict of interest at WMC – family employed there?  Not very proper in any business.
