There are 12 official candidates for Winneshiek County supervisor in this fall's elections--ten of them in three districts.
Incumbents Les Askelson and John Logsdon are unopposed so far in District #3 and District #4, respectively, bbut there are plenty of candidates in the other three districts.
In District #1, Dean Darling and Dennis Karlsbroten will face off in a June 5th Republican Party primary. The winner will then face Democrat Bill Ibanez in November.
In District #2, there are four official candidates--Republicans Floyd Ashbacher, Wayne Jordahl and Ron Onsager and Democrat Rachel Vagts. Decorah City Council member John Franzen has announced he will run as an independent candidate, but he has not yet filed nomination papers.
In District #5, incumbent Lonnie Pierce will face a challenge from former supervisor Gordon Hunter in the June 5th Republican Party primary, with the winner facing Democrat Mark Kuhn in November.
Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. is the deadline for filing nomination papers at the Courthouse.
