Decorah High School again had five teams competing in the regional Envirothon competition held at Hawkeye Tech, with two of the team qualifying for the State Envirothon.

Each of the five member teams answered questions in four categories; soils, forestry, wildlife and aquatics. A Decorah team won each of the four categories tested at the regional.  Gaea had the high score in aquatics; Supafly had the high score in forestry; Fist had the high score in soils; and the Jackalopes had the high score in wildlife.  This was the first time that one school has swept all of the categories at a regional competition.

Afer all of the team scores from all of the regional contests across Iowa were tabulated, Decorah will send two teams--"Gaea" and "Fist"--to the state Envirothon contest to be held at Springbrook State Park on Monday, April 16th.  Gaea and Fist finished in the top 15 schools in the state.  This year marks the 13th year in a row that at least one team from Decorah will compete at the state contest.

The winner of the state contest will be awarded an expense paid trip to Susquehanna College in Selinsport, Pennsylvania to compete in the international Envirothon competition in July.
