The Decorah Public Library will celebrate National Library Week 2012 by holding an edible book contest on Thursday, April 12th.

Registration for the event has begun.  Anyone interested in participating in the contest should read contest guidelines and return a completed registration form to the library by Monday, April 9th.  Guidelines and registration forms are available at www.decorah.lib.ia.us and at the front desk of the library.

The contest is open to all amateur bakers, cooks, and decorators (professionals may also submit an entry but will not be considered for prizes). The public is invited to come and view contest entries, vote for the People's Choice Award, and eat the entries after awards are presented.

Each contest entry must depict a fictional or non-fictional literary work or character and must be at least 95 percent edible (i.e. made of food). Entries will be judged based on the following criteria:  (a) originality and creativity; (b) visual appeal; and (c) tie-in with the literary work being depicted.

Awards will be offered in three categories: Judges' Choice Award- Adults (for creators 16 and up), Judges' Choice Award- Young Adults (creators under 16), and People's Choice Award (all ages). The winner in each category will receive a $10 prize.

Entries must be dropped off at Decorah Public Library's lower level public meeting room from noon until 2:00 p.m. Thursday April 12th.  Public viewing and judging will take place from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  At 6:15 p.m. awards will be presented and all contest entries eaten.
