Students engage in a "Battle of the Books" Tuesday

Students from St. Benedict's North Winneshiek, Carrie Lee and Decorah Middle School took part Tuesday afternoon in a "Battle of the Books."

Since after Thanksgiving teams of 3rd through 8th grade students have read a total of 20 books.  Volunteer coaches met with the kids once a month, discussing the books and keeping the students on track for reading all the books.

On Tuesday the students gathered at Decorah Middle School and Carrie Lee to answer questions about the 20 books.  While the top three teams in each age division receive recognition, the overall goal is to increase the enjoyment of reading.

Following the "Battle of the Books" the students celebrated with pizza and the awarding of prizes.
