County supervisor candidate is withdrawing from the race

Posted: Mon, Mar 12, 2012 10:49 AM

Winneshiek County Board candidate Mike Ryan has decided not to file nomination papers to run as a Democrat in Supervisor District #5.

Ryan tells decorahnews.com that when he first started thinking about running for the county board, there were no other Democratic candidates.  But he then learned that Ft. Atkinson resident Mark Kuhn was going to run as a Democrat.  Ryan talked with Kuhn--and decided "I can get behind this guy."  He says Kuhn's agricultural background means "he has a very good shot (at winning in November)."

Ryan says he will not file nomination papers in District #5, allowing Kuhn to avoid having to compete in a primary, also allowing him to concentrate on the general election.  Ryan says while he might like to run for county board at some future date, he will be supporting Kuhn this year.
