Posted: Sun, Mar 11, 2012 4:11 PM

The Decorah Fire Dept was called out to fight a grass fire at 2715 Highway 52 around 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered the fire line had extended nearly a quarter mile north, being feed by the strong winds and dry grass.  Smoke from the fire reduced visibility on Highway 52.  Local Law enforcement officers handled traffic control to assist the Fire Department.

The fire was brought under control in just over 40 minutes.  A total of 30 acres of grass was burned.  The cause of the fire was accidental.

The Decorah Fire Department was assisted by the Calmar Fire Department, Winneshiek County Sheriff Office, Decorah Police Department and Iowa State Patrol.
