FoodCorps, a national food and nutrition education project, is taking applications for Americorps workers interested in a year of public service building healthy school food environments in high-obesity, limited-resource communities.
FoodCorps volunteers at Luther College have worked with school wellness teams to implement farm-to-school initiatives in Northeast Iowa. They also facilitate the safe routes to schools project and other programs that create healthier educational environments.
Luther College is a partner for FoodCorps programs and operations, and is part of the NE Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative, a broad, multi-county collaborative that is building a healthy local food system.
Applicants for a FoodCorps leader position must be 18 years of age or older and must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent. FoodCorps members will receive a living allowance during their year of service and an AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of service. The education award may be used to pay education costs at qualified institutions of higher education or training or to repay qualified student loans.
