Winneshiek County Celebration of Life, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fighting breast cancer, is offering mammogram screenings free of charge to underinsured or uninsured women in April. The group has begun taking applications for the screenings, with a deadline of March 29th.
All free screenings are awarded based on financial need. The simple, seven question application explains the criteria. WCCOL leads a community effort to raise money for breast cancer awareness and prevention. Through business sponsorships and individual donations, the Winneshiek County area has supported the health of their own mothers and daughters, nieces and sisters, friends and neighbors.
Winneshiek County Celebration of Life president Margaret Walter says, "We know breast cancer is most successfully treated when detected early, even before a lump can be felt; and this program was created to help and encourage women to have yearly screenings to diagnose breast cancer in early stages and hopefully save lives."
Application forms can be downloaded from the COL webpage at www.winneshiekcol.com or from local health care providers.
