Decorah City Council member John Franzen says he will run for the Winneshiek County Board in District 2, which includes the City of Decorah wards 1 and 2 and portions of Decorah Township.  Because of redistricting due to the 2010 U.S. Census results, the district does not have an incumbent supervisor living in it.

Franzen's Decorah City Council term ends December 2013.  If he were to seek re-election, he would have to face another city council incumbent, Randy Schissel.  Franzen says he has decided his most logical choice is to run for county supervisor instead.

Franzen will run as an independent.  He says if he is elected a county supervisor, he will "earnhis keep" by going to Des Moinesone day every week while the state legislature is in session to attend committeemeetings and to lobby for the very things that are vital to Winneshiek County, like funding for local roads and infrastructure.  Franzen says he will also belooking for opportunities to bring businesses to Winneshiek County that relateto the Metronet project, tourism, manufacturing and new agriculture options.

Franzen also says that by regularly attending citycouncil meetings in all cities in Winneshiek County he will be better able to makeinformed decisions  for everyone inWinneshiek County.

Franzen says he is very interested in getting feedback from the public.  He is inviting people to call, text, e-mail or talk to him in person.  You can call or text him at (563) 379-0004,  e-mail johnlfranzen@hotmail.com or visit him at at 410 Decorah Avenue in Decorah.
