Copies of the book "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide" by Nicholas Kristoff and Sheryl WuDunn are currently available for check-out at the front desk of the Decorah Public Library. Women Oppressed Around the Globe: Sexual Slavery, Human Trafficking, and Maternal Health with Becky Stiger

Presenter Becky Stiger will give a program based on the book at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8th, at the Decorah Public Library.  Stiger will discuss how women are oppressed around the globe and in the US.  Stiger's presentation will be followed by group discussion based on the book.  It is not necessary to have read the book to participate, however.

Stiger has been studying and working in the field of women's oppression and human trafficking for four years in Decorah, St. Louis and Chicago.  She works as a Program Development Director with Traffick Free, a volunteer-based organization whose mission is to provide public awareness and advocacy as well as direct services for victims.

Stiger earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Luther College in 2008
