Pilates for high school athletes to be offered at Winneshiek Medical Center

Posted: Wed, Feb 22, 2012 6:51 PM

Winneshiek Medical Center Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Department is offering a four-week Pilates class for high school spring athletes.  The class will be held at Winneshiek Medical Center from 6:15 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. on four consecutive Wednesdays, starting February 29th.

Physical therapist and certified Stott Pilates Instructor Shauna Menke will take the athletes through a series of exercises that address core strength while emphasizing proper muscle activation.  Each week will provide the athlete with additional instruction on how to best stabilize their core in order to safely and effectively perform their spring sport, while improving their performance.

"Pilates is an exercise method that emphasizes core stability and control of dynamic movement," says Menke. "Increasing core stability has the potential to improve your sports performance by increasing speed and endurance and producing more force behind your throw, hit, or kick.  Pilates is ideal for both men and women and can challenge any level of athlete. "

Area high school students can take advantage of the new Pilates class offered at Winneshiek Medical Center by downloading a registration form from www.winmedical.org or calling 563-387-3031 to sign up. There will be a $20 charge per student with a t-shirt provided at the end of the 4-week session.

Space is limited, so please register by Friday, February 24th.
