Spillvile Mayor Michael Klimesh to run against Roger Thomas for State Assembly seat

Spillville Mayor Michael T. Klimesh has announced plans to run the Republican Party nomination for the Iowa House District 55 seat.

Klimesh said his campaign platform offers realistic solutions to help get Iowa's workforce and economy "back on track."  As the general manager of Graphics, Inc. in Calmar, Klimesh said he knows how to work with people toward a common goal, and how to set those goals to make real progress.
As mayor of Spillville, he has spearheaded several major projects and improvements, while working to maintain the quality of life that makes living in the small town attractive.  "I know how to make things happen, and happen within a budget that doesn't strap or overextend those I'm sworn to represent," he said.

Iowa House District 55 was recently redrawn based on population as part of the state's redistricting following the 2010 census.  The new district includes Decorah, Calmar, Castalia, Clermont, Elgin, Elkader, Fayette, Fort Atkinson, Hawkeye, Jackson Junction, Ossian, St. Lucas, Spillville, Wadena, Waucoma and West Union.

If he wins the Republican Party nomination, Klimesh would face Democrat Roger Thomas of Elkader.   Thomas is currently serving his seventh term in the Iowa House. He serves as the Ranking Member of Economic Growth and Rebuild Iowa committee, and holds positions on Agriculture, Veterans Affairs, and Ways and Means committees, as well as the Transportation Committees and Infrastructure and Capitals Appropriations Budget Subcommittee.
