Vagts will run for County Board

Decorah City Council member Rachel Vagts says she will run for the Winneshiek County Board in District #2 in the November 6th election.

The district does not currently have a county supervisor due to redistricting.  It was formed by combining Wards 1 & 2 in the City of Decorah with portions of Decorah Township to the east of the City of Decorah.

Vagts says she is running "because there are some many opportunities for county government to work on progressive projects."  She says such projects include the Metronet, which currently serves just an area in Decorah, but Vagts would like to see expanded to the entire county; and the Prairie Farmer and Trout Run Trail recreational trails, which Vagts says are just some of the conservation projects and parks projects she would like to work on if elected.  Finally, Vagts says she would like to see "more transparency" in the operations of the county board.

Vagts currently serves on the Decorah City Council as an at-large district representative.  She says she would resign from that post if elected to the county board.
