The Decorah High School gym--which was first used in the fall of 1964--has seen its last athletic event. The girls basketball game between Decorah and Independence Wednesday night marked the end of the road for the facility, which will be transformed into the new cafeteria for the remodeled Decorah High School.
During the 48 years the gym has been used there have been six boys basketball championships and five girls basketball championship[s. The wrestling program won four conference championships and the volleyball program earned one championship.
In addition to the team championships, there have been 15 individual state wrestling champions and eight basketball players who have scored 1,000 career points or more.
Wednesday night's game included a trivia contest, with prizes awarded to those who knew their Decorah High School gym history.
