Vanberia International Gifts of Decorah has donated a 12-piece hand-carved and hand-painted work of art for Vesterheim Museum's upcoming auction.
"The Wedding Procession," by Henning of Norway, is a woodcarving valued at $5,000. It is themed around a traditional Norwegian wedding.
The procession, led by the fiddler and master of ceremonies, includes the bride and groom, parents, and guests, all on horseback. Eleven separately carved figures are mounted on a solid wood base. The base is fifty-five inches long and four and one half inches wide, and the figures are approximately eight and one half inches tall.
The wood carving will be auctioned during Vesterheim's Benefit Auction on Friday, October 19th, at the Hotel Winneshiek in downtown Decorah. Raffle tickets are $25 each or three for $50, and can be bought through Vesterheim at 502 W. Water Street, or (563) 382-9681. The winner need not be present to win. All proceeds from the raffle benefit the museum.
