Blue Zone program continues in Decorah--without the designation

Decorah was not selected Friday as one of the eleven finalists in the Iowa's Healthiest State Initiative called "Iowa Blue Zones."  But the organizers of the local effort to win the designation for Decorah say they're continuing their planning.

A public forum on the Blue Zone project will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6th, at Decorah City Hall.

Decorah Blue Zone volunteers are even holding out hope that the community will be named a small town finalist by the program.  All of the communities named Friday are larger than Decorah.  Friday's announcement by the Blue Zones Project stated "In March, Wellmark and Healthways will announce the smaller communities that have been selected for site visits. This will multiply the opportunities for all communities across the state from the original commitment of 10 demonstration sites to many more."
