Decorah Public Library will offer an 8-week reading and discussion group focused on current world affairs in March and April. Beginning March 12th, the group will meet for an hour every Monday at a time to be determined.
Each year the Foreign Policy Association highlights eight of the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans by publishing the Great Decisions briefing book. The book provides background information, current data and policy options for each issue. Topics for 2012 are Middle East realignment, promoting democracy, Mexico, cybersecurity, Afghanistan and Iraq, the state of the oceans, the future of Indonesia, and energy geopolitics.
Each participant is asked to pre-register and pay $20 for a copy of the Great Decisions book by Monday. February 27th. Books will be ordered no later than Wednesday, February 29th. Anyone interested in participating should stop by the library or contact Kristin Torresdal at (563) 382-3717 or ktorresdal@decorah.lib.ia.us. Participants will also be asked to indicate a preference for a 4:00 p.m. or a 7:00 p.m. meeting time. Meetings will be held Mondays from March 12th through April 30th on the 2nd floor of the library.
