Cardiac Rehabilitation Week is being celebrated this week through Saturday, in conjunction with Valentine's Day.
Winneshiek Medical Center cardiac rehabilitation nurse Kim Wilmes says cardiac rehabilitation is a supervised exercise program to return cardiac patients to optimal health following a major cardiac event, such as bypass surgery, heart attack, stent placement and valve replacement.
Wilmes says cardiac rehab may also include nutrition counseling, stress management and emotional counseling. Cardiac rehab sessions at the hospital are held three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the Rehabilitation Gym on the lower level of the medical center.
