Winneshiek Energy District asks City of Decorah for $10,000

Winneshiek Energy District Executive Director Andy Johnson met for half an hour Wednesday night with members of the city's Finance Committee to discuss a request to have the city give $10,000 to Winneshiek Energy District.

Earlier in the week, Johnson had met with Winneshiek County supervisors to discuss a request for $15,000 in county funding.

Johnson says a federal stimulus grant that has supplied a good deal of his agency's operating revenue is scheduled to expire June 30th.  City Finance Committee members were generally favorable to Johnson's request, but chairman Paul Wanless said he would like to see evidence that the agency could financially sustain itself after the federal money runs out.

Johnson promised to send additional information to the committee.  The finance committee Wednesday night delayed a decision on the request until a later date.
