Effective Monday, February 13th, the speed limit on Short Street from Mechanic Street to Highway 9 will permanently change from 35 mph to 25 mph.
The Decorah City Council Monday night approved changing the speed limit in order to establish a consistent speed on Short Street and Mechanic Street. The lower speed limit also was approved to increase safety for those entering and exiting private property driveways on Short Street and crossing Short Street.
The Decorah Police Department says it will be using a number of methods to reinforce the speed limit change, such as warnings for a period of time as well as the placement of the speed warning trailer in the area.
Anyone with questions is encouraged to call Police Chief Bill Nixon at the Decorah Police Department, 382-3667.
