Decorah School Wellness Team continues to push for healthy habits

The Decorah School Wellness Team continues its work to promote exercise as part of an overall wellness program.  A recent workshop called "Move to Beat the Winter Blues" encouraged families to be active together.

"Since the 1970's, children have lost an average of nine hours a week of playtime," says Decorah School Wellness Team Co-Chair Emily Neal, the Director of Environmental Outreach at Luther College.

"When you see the staggering obesity statistics and hear that your child's life expectancy is less than your own it really gets your attention!" says Decorah School Wellness Team Co-Chair Gina Holthaus.

The Decorah School Wellness Team and the Northeast Iowa Food & Fitness Initiative are working to offer healthier school meals, and increasing opportunities for physical activity.

The next wellness workshop will take place Sunday, March 18th.  It will be open to parents and children in the Decorah School District.
