"Return to the Nest for the 46th Fest" is the theme for the 2012 Nordic Fest.
The popularity of the Raptor Resource Project's eagle cam has spread the Decorah name to millions of people around the world. Recently the famous "D-1" eagle (equipped with transmitter device) returned home to Decorah after her Aug. 2011 departure lead to a 5-month journey totaling about 900 miles into Wisconsin, Minnesota and Northeast Iowa.
"This theme sends a symbolic message that Nordic Fest always has a coming-home feeling," said Fest President Wendy Spilde. "And the event proves to be a common weekend for family reunions; class reunions and friends who meet from states away to be together."
One event the fest will feature to encompass the theme are the Eagle Dash Bus Tours. Guests will enjoy a guided bus tour to the Decorah Fish Hatchery and will be able to see the nest, hopefully the eagles, and learn more about the eagle cam, Raptor Resource Project and the hatchery.
Fest organizers will also creatively include the theme on buttons, programs and merchandise, all available in July. Residents and businesses are encouraged to decorate window displays, porches or gardens utilizing the theme.
