Unemployment goes up in Winneshiek County

Iowa Workforce Development says the unadjusted unemployment rate in Winneshiek County in December was 5.2 percent.  That represents an increase of 1.1 percent from November, but the figures are not seasonally adjusted.  Unemployment in Winneshiek County usually increases each winter as construction workers and similar tradespeople cannot work because of the weather.

Workforce Development says 12,010 people held a job in Winneshiek County in December, while 660 were unemployed.

Statewide, unemployment rate fell to 5.6 percent in December, the lowest level reported since June 2009.
