One-year-old bald eagle "D1" has returned to Decorah after a summer spent in Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Raptor Resource Director Bob Anderson says the eagle spent the night Tuesday at roost back in Decorah.  D1 carries a tracking monitor, which allowed Anderson to learn the bald eagle was on the Upper Iowa River and once again not too far from the Decorah Wall Mart.

Wednesday morning Anderson followed the signal from the GPS unit and was led to Phelps Park, where he found D1 perched in a tree overlooking the Decorah Prairie.

Later in the day Anderson saw D1 near Pulpit Rock Park, near Twin Springs Park and at the intersection of Highway 9 and Short Street.

Says Anderson, "I must admit is was heartwarming to see D1 soar over the city of Decorah.  Now, the question is; will she stay?"
