The Winneshiek County Board has its first announced candidate for this summer's election.
Former county supervisor Gordon Hunter Jr. says he intends to take out nomination papers in March to run for District 5 supervisor. The district is comprised of nine townships on the western edge of Winneshiek County and a portion of Decorah Township just to the west of Decorah.
Hunter was a supervisor from 1996 to 2008. He says the fact that he is a farmer and the district is largely rural means he would be a good match for the supervisor district.
Current supervisor Lonnie Pierce also lives in the 5th District, so a primary election will be held June 5th.
