Decorah bald eagle parents may return to the spotlight soon

Most of the attention being paid by bald eagle watchers the last few months has been devoted to the wanderings of "D1," one of three chicks hatched last year by the Decorah bald eagle pair nesting near the Fish Hatchery.

But the attention could soon swing back to the parents.  In the past three years, the first eggs were each laid March 2nd, February 25th and February 23rd.

The two parent birds have been active in the nest since August.  The Decorah bald eagle parents typically do not migrate, and stay in the same area all year round.  They are busy preparing and working on their nest almost daily lately in preparation for the 2012 nesting season.   Raptor Resource Project volunteers installed new cameras and microphones at the Decorah nest in October.  The bald eagle parents are often seen on the Raptor Resource video feed early in the morning, between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m.
