The 2012 session of the Iowa Legislature opened on Monday.
State Representative Roger Thomas of Elkader says his top priority for the new session will be creating jobs to help grow Iowa's middle class.
Said Thomas, "Our job creation plan will reduce taxes for small businesses across Iowa, keep Iowa a world leader in renewable energy, and reform our schools to ensure that Iowa students are prepared for the jobs of the future."
The legislature could also debate cutting commercial property taxes, reforming Iowa's mental health system and passing a state budget.
Thomas currently serves as state representative from District 24, which includes portions of Clayton, Fayette and Delaware counties. However, reapportionment in 2012 will place Thomas in what will be House District 55, which include most of Winneshiek County and portions of Fayette and Clayton counties. Thomas is currently serving his seventh term in the Iowa House.
