Mild southwest winds combined with the lack of a snow pack in Northeast Iowa set the stage Thursday for numerous record high temperatures.
Normal high temperatures for early January are typically in the lower to middle 20s. But Decorah's temperature at noon Thursday already tied the record of 46 degrees set in 1930. The thermometer kept going up, eventually reaching 54 degrees around 3:00 p.m.
Warm temperatures will continue Friday--but not record-setting temperatures as a slight cold front passes through.
