decorahnews.com in Afghanistan: Waukon resident volunteered for "battlefield circulation team"

Waukon resident Edwin Frick's deployment in Afghanistan along with the 322nd Engineering unit took an unforeseen turn.

While other soldiers in the 322nd spent their time on construction projects, Frick volunteered for a "battlefield circulation team."  That assignment called on him to be a gunner on trips made throughout Kandahar Province by the Army's commander in the province.

Frick tells decorahnews.com that the assignment meant a lot of early mornings and late nights, but he enjoyed the assignment.  The team would visit projects and soldiers throughout the province, to check on their status.

Now that his deployment is ending and he is returning to NE Iowa, Frick says he's looking forward to spending time with his two kids at home.
