Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) is offering Farm Business Management coursework that meets the requirements of the USDA Farm Service Agency for Direct Borrowers. The class is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, Jan. 10-Feb. 28, from 6-10 p.m.
Nate Gebel, NICC ag business faculty member, teach the Farm Business Management class in Room 114 at The Dairy Center immediately south of the Calmar campus.
Farm Business Management serves as a comprehensive guide to managing a farm business. From financial management, income and expense statements, to balance sheets and cash flow budgeting, Gebel addresses risk management, asset building, setting achievable goals and establishing vision. The five areas of financial health are covered: profitability, liquidity, solvency, efficiency and repayment capacity.
Course participants will learn the tools they need to increasing their crop or livestock business' profitability, including what lenders – whether it be FSA, the local bank or Farm Credit Services of America – looks at when reviewing financial records. A thorough 480 page 6th Edition textbook, "Farm Management," is included in the registration fee. In addition to meeting FSA requirements, participants will also gain the knowledge needed to become well-rounded financiers in the management of farming operations.
