The Winneshiek County Conservation Board has made available online the resources developed over the course of its Fit Environment program, which strives to increase knowledge and appreciation of the outdoors while promoting physical fitness. All materials are now available at www.fitenvironment.com.
Through Fit Environment, educators, students and the general public are introduced to a variety of lifelong outdoor recreation activities and discover how they can use those skills and activities in their classrooms, with families and friends, and in their daily lives.
Materials available on the website include technical skill guides, activity ideas, background readings, and more. Educators will find additional materials, like tips for cross-curricular alignment and lesson plans (including some developed by local educators), particularly helpful. Also on the website are materials designed for use with the Backyard Discovery Packs available through WCCB.
Support for the Fit Environment was provided by the Iowa DNR's Resource Enhancement and Protection – Conservation Education Program (REAP-CEP).
