55 local families helped by Luther student organizations

The Luther College Student Activities Council in cooperation with Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation has given 55 families a dose of Christmas cheer.

"Christmas Cheer" is an event conducted annually on the Luther campus, benefiting the community by matching a local family-in-need with an on-campus group, organization or office. Each group purchases presents to give anonymously to the family they were paired with.  This year 55 on-campus organizations sponsored 55 families throughout Northeast Iowa.

NEICAC and the SAC Christmas Cheer committee facilitate the pairing of local families with each participating organization, with a general guideline of spending $30 per family member.

Luther junior Jenna Schwake, a co-chair of the SAC Christmas Cheer committee, said that she chose to become involved with Christmas Cheer as a way to give back to the Decorah area, especially those in need.

Co-chair Quinn Meyer, a Decorah native and Luther junior, is also very excited to be a part of this event saying, "I love continuing to do volunteer work when the people we are helping are so grateful."
