The DHS 2012 graduates of Decorah High School will get to appreciate one big component of the high school renovation project as they attend graduation ceremonies in the new (to be completed) gymnasium. School officials learned last week that Larson Construction has committed to completing that phase of the renovation by May 2012, complete with air conditioning.
In other renovation news:
• The front office area that will house administrative offices is almost enclosed, and when that is bricked in crews will direct major efforts to interior work in the gymnasium and locker room areas.
• Storm sewers are in the process of installation, and the school will be tied into the new water system later this week.
• Asbestos removal will be completed over Christmas break. In action Monday night, the School Board approved an asbestos removal bid in the amount of about $10,000 by Affordable Hazards Removal of Monticello for hallway work and room tiles on the "English wing." Superintendent Mike Haluska expressed confidence in the ability of the company to do good and timely work based on previous work with the district.
• Second floor restrooms are scheduled to open some time on Tuesday.
