Decorah school officials are looking at the silver lining to Monday's accident that resulted in a broken gas line and the cancellation of classes at Decorah High School.
Construction crews ripped through a plastic pipe that carried gas into the high school. Markings of the gas line had disappeared, so workers weren't sure where the line was.
Decorah School Superintendent Mike Haluska says once school officials learned of the gas line rupture, they put the school district's evacuation plan into effect. Says Haluska, "In a matter of a few minutes the building was empty."
